Swapped to KDE and now things are broken

I was running Gnome, but was not happy with the interface (again) and
installed/swapped over to KDE. I now have the following issues with my
system:

  1. YAST/Software Installer won’t work. I put in my password and then
nothing shows up. I can run it from command line, but this is a pain
when I try to install rpms from the web. It will no longer install
    things from rpm through YAST.

  2. All sound quit in my web browsers. I get the following information
    from crash handler:
    System configuration startup check disabled.

openSUSE 11.0

KDE 4 as well as KDE 3.5.9 (release 49.1) both act the same.

I installed from a DVD.

Gnome works with no problems but sound in websites. I will swap back
out drives and see if your suggestion works and then update the post.

Thank you for your help.
