suspicion - opensusse 11.4 hacked from external network

Hi,
I’m new to opensusse , please help
when I run ’ ip route ’ in terminal i get"
192.168.0.0/24 etho proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.10 " <-----’ what is it ?
169.254.0.0 /16 dev etho scope link
127.0.0.0 /8 dev lo scope link
default via 192.168.0.01 dev etho.

I have NetGear router which is 192.168.0.1, and do not have any network. My laptop is connected straight to router.
I had to change from windows 7 to opensusse 11.4 because my laptop was constantly under attack (damaged software ) and used 3 types of security software with no results.
i can see that opensusse is better but I’m new to this operating system\

Most Netgear routers have a built in hardware firewall

192.168.0.10
Is the LAN IP address assigned to your laptop by the router

That is assigned either by DHCP or by address reservation, whichever you are using.
It looks fine

You just made the wises decision in your life to switch to Linux

I think You have a DNS problem. Please try to ping 8.8.8.8. If that is working please show us the file /etc/resolv.conf. The command to do so is :

cat /etc/resolv.conf

Best regards,
Greg

Welcome new postter.

As addition to the posts above I like to point you to the fact that you should post computer text beween CODE tags to keep it readable: Posting in Code Tags - A Guide
As an example I will post from my system:

henk@boven:~> ip route
10.0.0.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 10.0.0.154
169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link
127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link
default via 10.0.0.138 dev eth0
henk@boven:~>

And this serves also to show that there is nothing strange in your’s. The difference being that my LAN has network 10.0.0.0/24 and your has 192.168.0.0/24.
You are wrong when you say you do not have any network, because you have. It is 192.168.0.0/24 and has at least two systems on it: 192.168.0.1 (the router) and 192.168.0.10 (your router). Having two systems connected is sufficient to have a network.

Sorry @glistwan, but I do not see that thee OP has reported any problems with DNS. He has reported no problem at all, only that he had an idea about being hacked, which is not the case Thus your advice is a bit premature. Or do I understand you wrong?

I have NetGear router which is 192.168.0.1, and do not have any network.

I understand this as not having internet access  but that’s just a wild guess.

Best regards,
Greg

O, I see. Yes, that could be an interpretation. But because he is afraid to be hacked (from the Internet I guess), and thus implies connection, I did not interprete it. like this. But you are right when you think that the expression “I have no network” is used by many people for many different things.

My interpretation was because I saw an earlier one where someone stubbornly stated he had no LAN, in the mean time having one of course.

It does not help that the OP has gone for a prolonged sleep or something since he posted :frowning:
