Suspend problems

Hi there
Running 11.2 on laptop, working in KDE (4.3 i think), and ICEWM.
powersave -U has started freezing on me at about 80-90% on the progress bar. Just started today. Haven’t done anything i think would start a problem except perhaps switching from ifup to knetworkmanager for network.
Here’s the info i thought would be useful, but I can’t see what is wrong.

I was wondering ‘how’ the situation had changed to make it workable?

‘Changed a bit’ is probably too technical for me. Lots of folk (me included) tend to come across this kind of problem and I was hoping you could give some clue as to how you achieved a workable solution? Would be appreciated.

Hi there, sorry for not being more specific.
I realised that the only thing that had changed from it working to not working was that I started using a usb wireless adaptor. The computer (it is an old laptop!) wasn’t getting the right sort of signal from the usb device to say it was ready to shut down I think.
I don’t actually remember what I did now, but it was either switching back to ‘ifup’ from ‘knetworkmanager’, or I just removed the usb wireless adaptor each time before I hibernated.
I don’t get much more technical than that sorry. Feel free to ask more specific questions though and I might be able to point you in the right direction. I found other forum entries on this topic helpful.

Thanks for the reply. If you check your Network Settings you should be able to tell if you are now using ifup. The ifup check setting is usually on the first, leftmost tab.

Changing to ifup certainly worked for me.

Now all I have to do is solve how to Suspend/Resume cleanly, but the openSUSE support pages for configuring hooks etc lost something in translation from German I think They are not so clear for me.

I should add that I’ve just found the s2ram package (called ‘suspend’ in openSUSE distro - use webpin).

Suspend to RAM - openSUSE

I had to force it via terminal, and waking up was via power key. PCMCIA was fine after but I had to ifdown eth0 and then ifup eth0 to get internet back. (AM using traditional ifup and not NM)
