Suse11.4 x86_64 Update Failiing

Hi,

When I run the YAST Online Update OR Software Management OR Zypper,
the Updates (or install of new software) fails when the download of the
Delta RPM reaches 98%.

I have added ALL of the community repositories and have Imported the
appropriate certificates.

When watching the DeltaRPM or normal RPM download, it starts the
download at approx. 4Mbs/sec until it reaches 98% of file downloaded.
Then, the speed drops to 0 B/sec and the file download fails. This then
prompts a Retry which again fails when it reaches approx 98% download.

It does not matter if I am doing an Online Update, Doing a Software
Management (to install new software) or using Zypper in a Terminal
session, the result is the same.

I have even gone so far as to connect the machine DIRECTLY to the
internet, bypassing all firewalls so as to ensure it is not a firewall
issue.

Thanks

DD Caveat
openSUSE®, the “German Engineered Automobiles” of operating systems!

I don’t have any ideas about this, but if you added all the community repos in an attempt to solve the problem, that is a retrograde step and a red herring. In fact you should not add repos willy-nilly. Good luck with the download problem.

Do you have free space in /var ?
Is it mounted rw ?
Do you have a corrupt partial download that cannot be appended to?
Perhaps try deleting the contents of “/var/cache/zypp/packages/”?
Is the problem just with MozillaThunderbird-3.1.11-0.7.1.x86_64.rpm or was that an example?
What happens if you try installing it directly from a repository with rpm?

Questions, questions. And the rain it raineth every day.

The machine is a NEW install, 300GB HD, nothing else on it except OpenSuse. I have never had a problem with OpenSuse until now. I have been running Suse in one form or another for almost 10 years and have never come across this problem before…which is why I asked for help. Normally I can solve a problem on my own but I have tried just about every permutation of resolution…including re-fomat/re-install of the OS with the exact same result every time.

The reason I had to re-install OpenSuse 11.4 (64 bit) was that the 500GB HD I was using became corrupt (bad sectors) so I removed it and replaced it with a different HD. I have been running OpenSuse11.4 x86_64 on this machine since its release in March of 2011 and had ZERO problems on it until this week !!

I guess I will try a different HD and see if that makes any difference. I have eliminated almost all other possible problems, maybe it is this HD that is the problem. I Know it is not the machine itself as it has had nothing but OpenSuse on it since its construction 3 years ago !

BTW, Yes, Thunderbird was just a test. The Exact same thing happens when I try and do an On-Line Update or install any other piece of software.
