I get the error “unable to mount audio disc. Cannot find drive /dev/sr0”.
Data cd and dvd disks and DVD media are mounted ok.
I didn’t have this problem with Suse 10 installed on the same box.
Thanks

Did you try KsCD player
To mount in dolphin use this:
audiocd:/
I’m using gnome desktop. I’ve tried with xms, vlc, totem, banshee, etc. But the problem is that the os isn’t correctly finding and mounting the disc in the first place so nothing else can see it either.
Previous to getting DVDs to work audio cds were in fact being reported as “mounted” and appearing as an icon on the desktop as well as in file menus. Also insertion caused xmms to auto run and play the cd. None of these things happen now, as far as the system is concerned there is no disc present.
Andrew
Is this a new install?
Has it been updated.
There was a bug in the release, but is fixed in updates.
Sorry, this is a new install as of six weeks ago. When first installed music cds were mounted and played perfectly. The problem has arisen after I finally got DVDs to play by installing VLC.
Please post
zypper lr -d

Already did. Anything in particular I should be aware of?
You still didn’t post zypper lr -d
Then I might be able to comment

Please disable the DVD it’s #2 in the list.
Are you putting that in the drive when it asks ? Not necessary.
What is in #1?
With a cd in the tray what do you see in dolphin if you do as I mentioned earlier?
audiocd:/
Have you tried adding Packman repo
Follow this guide
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums
Then update. I actually have Packman with higher priority now than Updates. So for you it would have to set at say: 10
Do unconditional Update in Packman
Try smplayer too.
How do I disable the DVD?
I’m not being asked to put anything in the drive.
The item in #1 is the directory I created for the (http://easgs.wordpress.com/2009/01/17/multimedia-pack-portable-for-opensuse-111/)"]mmp2008]([mmp2008)mmp2008 multimedia package collection. This is set as a yast repository.
I don’t know what “dolphin” is, it doesn’t appear to be present on my machine. Going through all the packages installed that could conceivably access an audio cd, not one can see any thing in the drive.
My machine is at home (I’m writing this from work) and I have no internet access on that machine. Thanks to another improvement in the upgrade from V.10 to V.11.1, whilst I can set up my 56k external modem properly as before, there no way to actually access the modem to dial out! So the only way I can install anything not on the installation disk is via rpms which is usually a waste of time due to the usual problem of dependency hell! I only got DVDs to work by installing VLC player from the mmp2008 collection that, wonder of wonders, includes all required dependencies!
Anyway thank you for your time. It is much appreciated. When I get this sorted I will be posting for help on the modem issue, I’ve installed kppp and kinternet, but one problem at a time.
Andrew
Tricky for you then!
How do I disable the dvd drive.
It cannot be by uninstalling the dvd playing software as without it the system still recognised that it is a dvd and starts up totem, fat lot of good that does as it still cannot find the codecs!
Like I said, data cd disks are recognised and mounted.
andrew
I was meaning the install dvd repo in your repo list!
But if you don’t have internet you might need it
I did a bit more digging last night. First off I found that dolphin is a KDE file manager, I’m using gnome. Secondly I cannot even force a mount of audio discs. Over the weekend I’ll see if I can get up the enthusiasm to uninstall vlc player and the stuff associated with playing DVDs. If I get nowhere I’ll give up and install Ubuntu as on my laptop. I’ve wasted enough of my life on this as it is.
Of course not, a medium can only be mounted if it has a filesystem on it, audio CD’s don’t have a filesystem.
In that case why does an audio cd appear in file manager (when things are working as they should), have the option to “unmount” the volume just like any other disc and can be accessed and navigated around by the file manage just like a data disc?
Ok I’ve done a bit more playing around and found a way to mount and play audio cds as normal.
If I insert an audio cd into the drive before logging in then the disc will appear as it should and can be played and accessed like normal. I can unmount and eject the disc as normal and can insert another audio disc without a problem. I’ve also inserted and accessed conventional data discs and played a dvd movie and then reinserted an audio disk which again played as normal.
However if I start a session without an audio disc in the drive I’m back to as before.
Anyway here is the output from Zyper when the machine is started with a cd in the drive. I’ve made no other changes.
