I have to say That I am very happy I finally found Open suse…I was kinda losing my mind there for a while. I had Windows 8 computer…I hate windows 8…hate it hate hate it!!! I could not get any linux distro to install…I tried Mint…looked like it installed go to restart black screen…nothing…then I tried Ultimate Edition…again looked like it installed …restart…black screen…Ubuntu…same thing…Then my brain clicked…I used to use suse …and I liked it…Mind you in between one or the other I realized I had to disable secure boot…so I had done that and was still getting black screens on restarts. I put Open suse on…and not 1 problem did I have…recognized my drivers and everything…why did I not think of Open Suse earlier???
It’s unusual to get such behavioural differences between distros
But I do find openSUSE to be the best out there.
Nobody pays me to say that…

I’m not sure to what extent your varied experiences for the distributions is related to UEFI/SecureBoot issues and
whether you are attempting a dual boot. From my limited experience of dual-booting Windows 8 and GNU/Linux, I’ve had a
very smooth installation experiences with openSUSE (13.1) even with secure boot enabled. I also believe that GPT is
wonderful in comparison to MBR. If you do have a dual-boot with Windows 8 be warned - I’ve had an unpleasant experience
of Windows 8 updates trying to reclaim ext4 partitions without asking, destroying openSUSE startups. But only once.
P.S. It’s worth calling openSUSE by its correct name - SUSE is something a little different.

Well, I don’t hate windows, but I can’t stay very long apart from a linux
Distro.
Suse was the first distro that I play around, so it’s more or less like the
first love
But I learned a lot with slackware, So this two are my favorites. But
Slackware can give a regular user like me, a lot of pain.
I’ve played around with ubuntu, but this last time when I try to install in
dual boot with the uefi (?), I had a partition already in ext4 on my drive,
he recognize it , ask me if I wanted to install in a linux partition, and
then, wipe out my entire hard drive.
It was not funny.
I read later about a bug in ubuntu installation concerning this.
Anyway, never again, look up how suse was doing, and here I am.
