:’(We noticed lately (after ver11.0) the connection to SUSE repository too slow. It takes more than 2hr to install nvidia driver. I’ve check the connection, but to other site most of them is fast.
What’s going on?
Do you have alternative like mirror? I’m SUSE user since 10.0 version, during that time every thing looks like in order.
It could be that you need to disable IPv6
Thank you.:\
yeap i have also seen that …but i thought that it is because of a slow server.
by the way whats the problem if ipv6 is enabled??
To a great extent, IPv6 is a conservative extension of IPv4. Most transport- and application-layer protocols need little or no change to work over IPv6; exceptions are applications protocols that embed network-layer addresses - such as FTP, NTP
IPv6 specifies a new packet format, designed to minimize packet-header processing. Since the headers of IPv4 and IPv6 are significantly different, the two protocols are not inter-operable.

You get an IPV6 nameserver timeout for every DNS lookup.
Will ipv6 be faster in the future?

It isn’t the speed of IPV6, it is the absence of IPV6 name servers. If you are
not using IPV6, then you have no name servers, but if IPV6 is enabled, it looks
for such a name server and doesn’t go on to IPV4 until it gets a timeout.

Exactly. If you don’t get decent performance with IPv6 talk to your ISP
to have them get a nameserver that supports IPv6. Worst-case scenario
they just need to forward their IPv6 request back to IPv4, which would
all be on the same box, and then it will return with the IPv4 address
and move on, but in the end this is a problem at the remote edges of the
web more than at the core. As more ISPs and companies get on the IPv6
bandwagon the less problems there will be.
Good luck.

disabling ipv6 and pinging download.opensuse.org all the while during updates did not help.
the server just wont give more than 800b/s.
it takes for ever to get 1 file of 1.2mb.
updates are just not possible with this .>:(

I just pulled down some updates for a new install at nearly 1 Mbit per
second… it’s probably something network related between you and the
servers but it doesn’t seem to be the servers themselves, or their
connections. Sorry.
Good luck.

Your problem seems to be isolated to your system, as this is not a know issue. Assuming NET speeds otherwise (http, ftp) are normal - Usually where such issues exist, changing to a mirror in your locale can help.
i could not add any mirrors to yast repos.
it always gives error like could not add repository.
i tried to add some of the korean and thailand mirrors.
can you give me an idea how to add the mirrors.
they always go in services of yast repos.
most files i am able to download from rpm.pbone.net much faster.
but where do i put it so yast/zypper can see it downloaded.?
Mirrors here
openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview
Normally, you would be automatically directed to the nearest.
However, to add
find one you can use - click the HTTP link that is just after the location
Follow the link thru, for eg: to add the oss for 11.1 in korea daum: Index of /opensuse/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/
Adding repos via yast, default http method, call the repo whatever you like in the name section.
I’m in Korea and I have the same problem. Updates for 11.1 are comming at a few bits per second. It’s not my connection either as I’ve just downloaded a 700 MB ISO in just over 3 minutes. My speed for the rest of the net are excellent. It’s just the OpenSuse repositories that are having issues.
What’s interesting is that for me they worked fine until this past weekend. Don’t know what happened a day or 2 ago, but the repo went from blazing fast to incredibly slow.
