I plan to purchase a new Hewlett Packard Elitebook 8560w ISV certified mobile workstation. According to Hewlett Packard and Novell, it is certified to run SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 SP1.
What if I choose to install OpenSUSE instead?
Will it be fully compatible with this mobile workstation?
If it works with SLED
You can expect openSUSE to work reasonably well if not perfectly…
Thank you for the reply.
I was thinking the same thing, but it is reassuring to read it from you.
I will try the latest version of OpenSUSE 64 bit by sticking in the Live DVD disc and testing out the various critical functions before I choose to install it on my future Hewlett Packard Elitebook 8560w. OpenSUSE is a more up to date distribution than SLED 11 SP1 so I hope that it stands to reason that the newer hardware features will be supported.
I will find out for sure and I will post a thread here when I have the funds available and I make my purchase.
As I have HP 8560w with OpenSUSE 11.4 and 12.1 I tried several video configuration but I am not able switch between LCD and external monitor. Only default output is shown. On my former notebook LCD and VGA or DVI were listed Display Setting applet.

You might want to post a new thread in the hardware forum and see if
someone can help you out if this is intended as a request for
assistance.
