We have installed Suse 10 on a DELL poweredge 2900 server.
The server freezes (sleep mode?) after couple of hours of inactivity. Doesn’t respond to telnet/ssh/vnc etc, the only thing that it responds to is ping. The only way forward is to reboot the machine.
Could you please let us know if there are any settings to change/disable the sleep mode?
The specs of the machine are:
Intel Xeon Quadcore Processor
24G RAM
Following are few lines that correspond to sleep mode from /var/log/warn file:
Nov 11 17:28:57 oracle01 zmd: ShutdownManager (WARN): Preparing to sleep…
Nov 11 17:28:57 oracle01 zmd: ShutdownManager (WARN): Going to sleep, waking up at 11/12/2008 15:48:57
Nov 12 16:48:56 oracle01 zmd: ShutdownManager (WARN): Preparing to sleep…

Be sure you have applied all of the latest patches to the system. I saw
a similar problem and apparently applying all the patches helped. Also,
as implied by the other person, there are specific forums for the SLE
products.
