Hi everybody !
I’m not sure this is the right session for my thread, and if not I apologize in advance.
I’m currently working on SUSE 13.1 with KDE desktop.
I’m performing some MonteCarlo computation using the FSL package, my CPUs are not too loaded and it seems to be no problem with the ram. Due to the long time of the MonteCarlo simulation I usually bash the script in the evening before leaving, in order to find results in the morning.
The problem is that SUSE freeze after going to stand by. That means that when I come back in the morning and I try to log in, I see on the screen my desktop wallpaper (the standard wallpaper for SUSE), without any icon on it, and I’m not able to get further.
No key or key combination pressing seems to work. I have to restart the computer by hand.
This really bothers me, because is the first time I get this problem. I’m working on a brand new quite good machine, with an ex novo SUSE installation and dual boot with windows 7.
Have you got any tip or idea ?
Thank you in advance
Alain

Well, you should disable the stand-by feature on your desktop. It makes
no sense to go into standby when you are running a long calculation,
anyway. That feature senses keyboard/mouse activity, not cpu load, I
understand.
Another issue is finding out why this locks.
Some machines lock with some screen savers, they crash. I never allow
“random screen saver” feature.

If you have another computer, you can try ssh.
