suse and nvidia why?

suddenly for no apparent reason when I boot I get a list of errors about usb problems :- usb 3-1.5: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1.5: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1.5: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1.5: device descriptor read/64, error -71 usb 3-1.5: device not accepting address 5, error -71 usb 3-1.5: device not accepting address 6, error -71 usb 3-1-port5: unable to enumerate USB device Welcome to openSUSE Leap 42.3 - Kernel 4.12.14-lp151.20.32-default (tty1) When I checked this out I-m told it,s an Nvidia problem but try as I can I cannot solve it. I can boot into a recovery mode but it,s useless because it uses 640x480 resolution and everything is off the screen. My question why do I always have problems with SuSe and Nvidia? The thing is that I can boot from a Knoppix DVD/USB key without any problems and a get good graphic resolution so why can,t SuSe do this? I have an nvidia gtx570 and installed all the propriety drivers using yast from the Nvidia repositories all prefixed with G04 why doesn’t the enter key for a new line work in this forum?

Welcome to openSUSE Leap 42.3 - Kernel 4.12.14-lp151.20.32-default

It looks as if you are using mixed Leap-42.3 and Leap-15.1 repositories.
;Disable or remove the non-15.1 repositories and try:

  sudo zypper dup

I do not know about proprietary drivers. They make diagnosing and repairing difficult.

Hi
That’s because the kernel module (kmp) does not match the running kernel which should be 4.12.14-lp151.28.32-default?

uname -r

I only see nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default-390.132_k4.12.14_lp151.27-lp151.6.1.x86_64.rpm at https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/leap/15.1/x86_64/

Thanks, I’ll leave Knoppix and try it. But a lot of the blame must go to Suse, why did they start jumping from 13.2 to 42.1 then back to 15.1 how the hell are we supposed understand that logic? I never installed 42.3 so I don’t know where that came from. If I remember the command I can disable them using zypper.

what is wrong with this window, it posts everything I write into one continuous line with no carriage returns or line breaks?

The openSUSE naming convention should be settled down now and be consistent into the future.
Reasons for past naming conventions can be found in a number of places including the following slide in my openSUSE slide deck… You may find other slides in my slide deck useful to you, too

Until you resolve your GPU driver, any kind of visual anomaly is possible.
