Finally bit the bullet and binned my trusty 13.2 in favour of Leap 15
So far I have to say I’m pretty underwhelmed…
Biggest issue I have is that I run 4 virtual Desktops across 3 monitors. On 13.2 I was able to set a different background for each of the 4 virtual desktops simply by right clicking on the Desktop area I wanted to change, select configure Desktop settings and then selecting the image from file to go on that screens Desktop background.
When I try to do that on Leap 15, say on Desktop 1 screen 1, that image gets displayed on screen 1 Desktops 1,2,3 & 4. Same thing happens on screens 2 and 3. So at the moment I’m stuck with the same same triple screen wallpaper on all 4 Desktops.
I’ve tried changing the option of Desktop and Folder view but that makes no difference. I cant see any other options to change…
So is it still possible to have different backgrounds on different Desktops? If so what’s the secret??
You can still have different backgrounds for activities. Instead of having 4 virtual desktops, you could have 4 activities. And I think there’s an activities pager widget that you could use to switch between them.
For myself, I managing with the same background for each virtual desktop. I have defined a second activity, but I don’t use it much.
Ah thanks for the quick answer! Progress eh… or just change for change’s sake…
So using ‘activities’ as you suggest does indeed do the job and dropping the pager on the task bar means it works pretty much like switching virtual desktops. Only I’m now getting plagued by constant ‘Kwin stopped working’ popups. Maybe I’ll try a further upgrade to 15.1
…and me, one of the many billions of frustrated people, tried this kde widget vallpaper it worked quite well on leap 15.0, only different wallpaper not different plugin but could be useful
well, yes, the ONLY drawback of using activities is: there is NO cube animation in the switcher, resp you cannot choose the switcher on activities in contrast to desktops. and i LOVE the cube over all. so, after 6 years of development of plasma 5, this hillerious feature from KDE4 (where desktops could have different widgets/backgrounds AND cube switcher together) this is still missing. i don’t know, why this can be so difficult to get there.
