when trying to install suse from a dvd i get to the black screen with the white letters, it gets to the point where it will say something about loopback something and then that is far as it will go. I have installed earlier versions with no problem, tried to update to the new version from suse 11.3 and get the same problem. any help on this would be appreciated.

I wouldn’t try an update fro 11.3 to 13.2 directly - it probably won’t
work, and it definitely wasn’t a tested configuration.
Start by doing a media check on the DVD, after verifying the checksum of
the downloaded file is correct.

Have you run a media check after booting from the burned image?
If not, that’s the next step. A good download does not guarantee a good
burn, if you’re burning to DVD.

Actually, it probably would, and the version of Windows has nothing to do
with whether or not it’ll install - not sure why you even bring that
up…

I have a VM that has 13.1 installed on it (just haven’t gotten around to
upgrading it) that has 256 MB of memory, so memory certainly isn’t a
constraint for installation - maybe for running desktop, but such a
system works just fine as (for example) a router or headless system for
performing automated tasks.

13.1 will, I recently tried it. I have not yet tried it with 13.2, but I certainly believe it will.
I am using a desktop pc with amd x2 dual core cpu, 4 gb ram, 1tb wd green hard drive separated into three partitions using the second partition for linux, size allocated for linux is 243 gb. Operating system on the first partition is Windows xp. I have not usually had problems installing linux before with any of the other versions until I decided to try this one. Hope this info will help thanks

it is a little unclear what the black screen with white letters is. Care to share what the white letters say??
Sounds like maybe you have dropped to terminal mode with a text install. This is not normal so hard to tell without more detail.
Dropping to text mode may indicate a video problem so what video in this machine?
OpenSUSE normally uses 3 partitions swap/root and home. It is general best to have a swap. You don’t hae to have a home but it is highly recommended to have a separte home partition. We also don’t know if this is a MBR install or a EFI BIOS install.
