Hi,
Since suse 11.x there has been a issue with xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau. I have installed SUSE on comps x 64 with GeForce 6150 and GeForce 8200 cards. Everything is fine up to the moment of logging into some of the desktop environment. Instead of seeing a desktop on monitor I always see a mess of colors. Deleting that driver returns thing to normal and desktop appears and behaviors as expected. Obviously that driver is important as it is installed by default and may be this issue comes only with some cards but there is no information about that.
Open SUSE 12.3 x64, GeForce 6150 and 8200, KDE 4.10
On my old nVidia FX5200 (NV34) graphics to get the nouveau driver to run I installed a custom kernel per this bug report: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=800686 where the kernel was located here: Index of /jslaby/bug-800686 I don’t know how long that kernel will be there nor do I know if that kernel will work on your hardware.
Anyway, its a kernel for testing and not for nominal operation.
I installed the kernel with the terminal command:
rpm -ivh kernel-desktop-3.7.10-0.i686.rpm
which retained the old kernel and this new test kernel. Note, the command 'rpm -uvh … " would NOT accomplish the same, nor would installing with a nominal zypper command.
You could check to see if there is a bug report raised wrt your hardware, and if not, raise such a bug report.
