Suse 12.3 Konsole Profile "Show Menu Bar In New Windows" Gone.

I just upgraded to 12.3 and I find that I can longer arrange for the menu bar to automatically appear
at the top whenever I start a new Konsole (v 4.10.5).

On my other machine with Suse 12.2 the “General” tab in Konsole “Edit Profile” has an option “Show menu bar in new windows”, but this option is not there in the new version.

Where do I go now to select this option?

Thanks.

Hmm strange, my version of konsole is 2.10.3 on a 12.3 machine. Anyway, there seems to be a config item “show menu bar” in the same config window where you find the “edit profile” option, just a bit lower down. Is that what you want? Lenwolf

Yes, this is what I want and formerly had.

But I wonder if you are referring to the same program.

Even my Suse 11.4 machine has konsole version 4.6.0 with a build time of 19 Oct, 2011.

On Suse 12.3 I have konsole v. 4.10.5 with a build time of 3 Jul, 2013.
This is what I see after I search for konsole in the YaST2 Software Management screen.

No. Konsole has version 2.10.x, KDE and the konsole RPM are at version 4.10.x.
Just select Help->About Konsole from the menu and you will see…

Does CTRL-SHIFT-M fix the problem for you (toggle the menu bar)?

The menu item is there on the main settings menu. However, you are somehow not seeing it because expect it to be elsewhere.

Neither CTRL-SHIFT-M nor selecting the menu item on the main settings menu fix, or were meant to fix, the problem that you can no longer set up Konsole to always show the menubar on Konsole startup.

THanks.

Now I see what you mean.

On 12.3 I see
Version 2.10.5
Using KDE Development Platform 4.10.5 “release 1”

On 12.2 I see
Version 2.8.5
Using KDE Development Platform 4.8.5 “release 2”

In the new version under “Edit Profile” there is no longer a way to select “Show menu bar in new windows”.
That’s a pain, even if there are work-arounds.

Thanks.

Then your system doesn’t show standard behaviour.
For me a new Konsole window ALWAYS has the menubar, and ever had.

You could try to delete/rename konsole’s config file, maybe that would help? (~/.kde4/share/config/konsolerc)

Do you have this problem with other applications as well?
Maybe try to play around with the setting “Configure Desktop”->“Application Appearance”->Style->“Fine Tuning”->“Menubar style”.
Switch it to something else, click “Apply”, then switch it back to “In application” and press “Apply” again.

Oh well. The setting IS still there:

It’s in “Settings”->“Configure Konsole…”.

But removing the config file should work as well…

That’s the answer!

It seems that in the version 2.8.5 this was found within Settings/Edit Profile under the General tab.
My 2.8.5 does not even have a Settings/Configure Console.

But in 2.10.5 Settings/Edit Profile this setting is no longer there, but has moved to Settings/Configure Console.
So this setting is no longer part of a profile, but seems to be global to all profiles.
I had not noticed that 2.10.5 has a “Settings/Configure Console”.

Thanks for your help.
