I had 11.3, upgraded to 11.4 no problems. I downloaded 12.1 dvd (4.6g) using bit torrent, burned dvd (using kde in 11.4), rebooted, and started to get cheksum failures during the install. I aborted, tried to reboot and BAM! my computer is dead. Can’t access anything, can’t get to my work files, class files, ANYTHING. I tried to do system recovery- FAIL.
So i go to my other computer, windows 7, and download 12.1 dvd (4.6g), using the direct link. Downloading has now taken a total of 2 weeks. I have a slow ISP. I burn ISO, try to install and the same problem. RPMs are corrupt, multiple checksum fails.
What is going on? Why cannot I install 12.1? Does anyone have this problem as well?
(i NEED to get my files from my laptop drive… while i try to figure out how to install 12.1, could someone point me to a program that will allow me to pull my linux files from my laptop hard drive to my windows 7 machine, whilst in windows 7? I have a USB laptop drive dock, and can take my laptop HD out no problem)
Thank you.

So you are not getting a good download and taking a very long is a big problem. Have you considered getting only the LiveCD as its much smaller? software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 12.1
I was using DTA for dling… and i’ve never (since the days of DSL) had this problem happen before twice, using diffrent sources… unless im getting senile lol (i download a LOT )
I will attempt the live CD next and will update with how that went

Having download corruption is quite normal, you have to verify the CD or
DVD image after you download it, and then again after you burn it, before
you attempt to install. You can see what happens if you don’t.

Use download software that verifies downloads on the fly and capable of
correcting them, like a good metalink capable software. There is help about
that in the official download page.
It might still be possible to repair your broken system attempting the
upgrade from a good DVD (offline upgrade procedure). Otherwise, you can
copy your home files elsewhere with the live CD. If you have a separate
home partition, as is recommended, it is very possible they are not damaged.
