Ive probably spent about 10 hours trying to fix the ‘no sound’ issue for 11.1 installed on a HP dv7 laptop.
Long story short, what ended up working for me was editing:
/etc/modprobe.d/sound
and changing the contents to:
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1 model=hp-m4
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel

Sorry to read it took you 10 hours. Next time, post sooner. I make it an effort to help users fairly quick. I’ve been telling openSUSE users with HP DV5’s and DV7s to use that setting “enable_msi=1 model=hp-m4” for months now. If you search on “dv7 sound” you should see some posts with that recommendation.
But I most definitely appreciate your sharing. If you find any other useful tidbits, please post/share.
