Hi everyone I’m new here and would like a dual boot with windows 7 with openSUSE 11.1 how do I do? Thanks if my spelling is not good because I’m Dutch not English.
can you understand Dutch?
below are my specs
May I know why you chose Opensuse 11.1 over 11.2? If you are ok with dual booting Windows 7 and Opensuse 11.2, I can be of help. Infact there is nothing much for me to say other than what the installation wizard is going to suggest. It is really very user friendly and you can hardly make any mistake.
BTW, I dual boot Windows 7 and Opensuse 11.2 on my dell laptop. It comes with 3 partition by default and I created an extended partition using “patition creator” in windows 7 control panel. I asked Opensuse 11.2 install wizard to create 3 logical partitions within the extended partition for /, /home and /swap.
because I wanted to install openSUSE 11.1 openSUSE 11.2 like I skip over. okay, I’ve chosen to format my drive but to reduce pressure but when I install I get an error message what’s wrong.
ps do you Dutch? my english is not so good
-=welcome=-
there are several here from the “low countries” but, not
constantly…i think we even have a moderator living there…but, so
far you english is much better than just good enough…
the forum’s ‘rules’ allow posting in your own language, but most use
english…and, almost all are VERY tolerant of misspellings and
etc…certainly getting the help you need is a LOT more important than
‘perfect’ english…
so, on to how to dual boot, this would be my recipe:
-backup all existing data/drives
-make sure your backup can be restored to the drive
-read:
http://en.opensuse.org/Download_Help
http://tinyurl.com/yhf65pv
http://tinyurl.com/ycly3eg
as an example of how to pick good media: http://tinyurl.com/l9ta5n
(find something similar for the brands available in your area)
-then, using the knowledge from above download an iso from
http://software.opensuse.org/112/en
and burn an install disk
-BUT WAIT: before you attempt an install READ and understand all of
the information “How to Proceed” below the “Download” button on that
page…especially helpful is the step by step walk though of how the
install will proceed…to see what YOUR install will be like first
select (above on that page) the type of computer, and DVD/CD whatever
because the different disks have slightly different install routines…
then, you are ready to install (if you followed all previously read
info–like, defrag your Windows FIRST, backup first, etc)…and, the
install routine will normally survey your machine, and suggest a way
to perform an install resulting in a dual boot…(but, i’ve never done
it as i don’t use that other system…)
have a lot of fun!

Have a lot of fun with your openSUSE !!! You came to the right place.

lots of docks…some folks really like the “cairo dock”, use google
or this forum’s advanced search to find hundreds of others…

The Cairo dock works good for me - only that I found that the OpenGL mode is broken (other OpenGL apps work fine).
However, as the OpenGL mode has nothing I would want over the normal mode, that doesn’t bother me.
I may link where you’ve downloaded your cario dock?
