SuSE 11.0 will not join Windows Domain

I downloaded the 11.0 that had been on-site for a couple days now. Still woll not join my Windows AD environment. I vaguely remember a post that this has been fixed. I also vaguely remember that the fault was in KDE4 rather than the networking modules. The system states that the domain has been joined successfully. The get the error message “Could not connect to host for smb://smb-network/” when trying to view the SAMBA shares. Does the same thing after a reboot. Any idea what I should be looking at, fixing, or installing? Thx…/harold

Try disabling the firewall. It is not enough to enable the ports.

Cheers

Really appreciate the feedback, but I disabled the firewall before trying to connect. I almost always do that and then start the firewall and make what adjustments that I need after a clean domain connection…but thanks again…/harold

I had the same problem: The reason for this was, that the package pam_krb5 was not installed any more . After i’d installed pam_krb5, i had to correct some entries in /etc/krb5.conf. Now it works fine.

I was SO hoping that I had overlooked this but I didn’t. And the config file looked good. I said "to h*** with this sh** and reloadeded 10.3, took the defaults and set the specific parameters, system joined AD with no problem. Just made a fresh copy of the 11.0 Live CD from this website. Reloading 11.0 today, will try the same thing and see if it works. Maybe I just screwed up something so badly it just couldn’t join AD. I really do appreciate the help though. Many thanks to both of you guys!!!

Let me know what you find out…
I too am having the same issues…Even to the point when I try to join.
It tells me there is no DC in the domain.mmmm Yet the windows users have to issue joining the domain…

yea same problem I can join the domain but I cannot login. AD sees my laptop but tells me login failed with the correct credentials

Has anyone had any success logging in as a user on a Microsoft Server 2003 active directory using SuSE 11.0?

Does anyone know if this problem has been addressed w/the upcoming 11.1 release?

TIA. Cheers

I haven’t had any problem… Once the proper packages are installed.

There are numerous cookbooks on the Internet, I don’t remember which one I followed.

You need to install Samba, krb5 and krb5-pam modules.

Also, make sure you are connecting over a connection that doesn’t block broadcasts. Verify TCP/IP connectivity by pinging your DC by name.

Also, be sure when you join to check the boxex that enable logging on with an AD account and create a local profile directory… Otherwise as the previous poster describes you’ve logged into the Domain but unable to logon to SuSE with an AD account.
