Have been trying to boot from the cd to recover the bios is changed to boot from the CD. when booting begins I get GRUB and a blinking cursor. What needs to be done in order for the boot to recognize the disk?
Done an md5 checksum before burning ? Also read this http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/401696-newbies-suse-11-1-pre-installation-please-read.html

first: when you say “SUSE 10x” is that SLED/SLES 10 sp-x, or openSUSE
10.x?? if either of the former: be advised this is the openSUSE forum,
and you probably need to go to forums.novell.com to get with folks
more in tune with that product…
but, if it is openSUSE 10.3 (none of the earlier have update/security
support):
if you boot from the CD and “get grub” i’d guess the CD is being
recognized, but THEN something is going wrong…are you certain the
CD is good?
read how to make certain here: http://tinyurl.com/6jwtg9
read all of it (all TWELVE posts in the thread–even though it is
targeted to newbies and openSUSE 11.1 it will save you HOURS of
frustration)…
read especially carefully items 2, 3, 4, and 6 and “Notes on CD
Burning” in the second post of that thread…
if after you are SURE you have good install media, repost here with
more info, like:
computer make/model, motherboard/cpu info, amount of ram, etc etc
etc…and, a description of exactly what is happening…
that is: do you see the normal graphic card then bios info…then do
you see a line with linux and a bunch of …build across the
screen…and THEN it just gives a blinking cursor…OR WHAT?
when the cursor blinks can you press the num or cap lock key and make
the keyboard LEDs go on/off??

well, if it does the same thing with both the SUSE and Ubuntu install
media then it is NOT the media problem…it must be one of these:
- malfunctioning CD/DVD player
- faulty BIOS
- loose connection somewhere
i’d take the cover off (is this a desktop or laptop?) and blow the cat
hair and dust out…it really doesn’t take a lot of dust and junk to
provide a path for current leakage…and, just a little in the wrong
places can be a real problem…
then find the cables connected to the back of the CD/DVD player and
unhook them…then hook them back in…
and, the other end of the wide flat cable also will plug into the
motherboard…unplug and plug that one back in alsoo…
do NOT pull on the wires, instead pull on the plastic plug
itself…gently…rock it out, and back in…
if you still get the same problem, you might TRY cleaning the laser
lens…you can get CD cleaner disks at most music/record shops or
hi-if sellers…they come with some liquid cleaning drops and
instructions–FOLLOW the instructions…
sometimes a failing/weak power supply can play all kinds of
tricks…how old is this machine??
good luck…
