Surprising Generalplus Webcam issue with newer kernel

Hi everyone,

I’ve got a 1b3f:2002 Generalplus Technology Inc. 808 Camera and I can’t use it on Tumbleweed. I found an Arch Forum post about it and it seems to be a kernel issue that should have been fixed in previous releases, except I’m experiencing it with kernel 6.17.4-1-default (64-bit) (on Tumbleweed 20251024).

I turned on a laptop I hadn’t worked with for a few months (so, not upgraded for a while). It’s running Tumbleweed 20250722, with kernel 6.15.7-1-default (64-bit). There, the camera works. So, it’s not a hardware issue.

Is there any way I can help myself fix this issue? Is this an OpenSUSE thing or should I just report to kernel devs this problem is back?

I really appreciate any help I can get on this.

Found a CachyOS post about it from 3 days ago and it seems like kernel 6.18 fixes this - can I be confident OpenSUSE’s version of it will get the same fix, or should a dev pay attention to this?

File a bug at bugzilla.opensuse.org

Thank you, will do.
