What include support a driver for USB modem Huawei E219 (HSDPA/UMTS) and Huawei EC226 (3G/EVDO)?
a google search reveals
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/Hardware/3G
that it
Huawei E219 (HSDPA)
USB
works out of the box
DiGi (Malaysia)
vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003
tested with Ubuntu 9.04 and NetworkManager 0.7
Ubuntu is gnome and network manager; OpenSuse 11.2 is now KDE for those that opt for that
but it should work out of the box: I think the product ID is identical to the older E169 Huawei
similarly from the above link
Huawei EC226 (EVDO Rev-A)
USB
Works
CAT Telecom Thailand
vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001
I think the product ID is that for the older E220 that has always worked very well (for me)
Ubuntu is the bigger distro so more sources there
- which country are you in?
- which provider are you looking at?
these two devices seem Malaysia and Thailand ?
I haven’t installed 11.2 onto a netbook, but trying the Gnome version as a liveCD I was impressed how it just went ahead and autoconfigured; (and that was the ZTE modem, the Vodafone K3565-Z) so I would hope with what you propose, it will equally autoconfigure; I found it created an entry for me in NetworkManager and all I had to do was click to connect: how hard is that?
so if you have a laptop, you can create a liveCD on a USB stick and boot it and see, if the shop will let you try either of these modems as a demo;
