Sun VirtualBox WinXP connection problem for Chrome/Chromium

Windows Xp in Sun VirtualBox, IE, FF and Opera work fine but Chrome and Chromium cannot connect at all, even to the router (192.168… address).

In fact they won’t open even “about:version” kind of pages.

One bright spot - Chrome successfully checks for updates and downloads them if “About Chrome” is selected from the menu.

Chromium runs from extracted folder, it’s not “installed”.

There’s nothing checked in LAN connections in Internet Options, checking/unchecking “Autodetect settings” doesn’t have any effect.

Sounds more like software settings for chrome itself.

In the under the bonnet settings
‘Change Proxy Settings’ is it set to anything other than: use preset proxy…

Yes, it’s something to do with Chrome/Chromium settings, but not the ones available to the user - there are no proxies set in either of them, “Change proxy settings” button opens Windows “Internet Options” that work fine for all other browsers.

Chrome is version 4.01, Chromium 5.0

In Opensuse host Chromium works fine.
