Hello,
a while ago I build a new desktop computer for my parents which is running openSUSE 13.1. As my parents peripherals are pretty old and I want to save some space on their desk, I’m looking for a new monitor with built-in speakers and webcam. It doesn’t have to be bleeding edge, a two year old model is fine as well.
Can anyone suggest a model which works out of the box? The size should be around 24 inches.
Thanks in advance
I have an Asus 27" VK278Q and like it quite well! That said, I do use external speakers as the built in ones just, somehow, don’t quite make it for listening to music. It has a built in camera, I know it works, but have never used it so I can’t say much about it. The outside frame is rather small, so the size isn’t too bad. It’s not too heavy. I bought it for the size and resolution which is great! The cube desktop effect in KDE is startling at first.

I only have a recommendation for one NOT to buy: ACER H243HX. Its webcam
does not work in Linux, but does work in Windows 7 (with VLC). It has a
microphone (via USB), which I’m unsure if it works. No speakers, though
- but I prefer external speakers, anyway. I had an older monitor with
speakers (Proview), and it performed quite poorly, boxy sound. The good
thing is small table footprint, of course, and fewer things to carry about.

So I will look out for a model from Asus. I will let you know which one I choose and if I succeeded.
