Would it be possible to put code tags into the toolbar of the quick reply box? It would be incredibly useful to a lot of users (of the web-interface at least) if you could just render selected text as code with a single click. As of now you either have to “Go Advanced” or type those tags manually.
I normally use quick reply, but I’ll try this.
Some code text.
That seemed to work.
I did a “middle click” on the reply button to get the full edit box. It didn’t require “advanced”.

That is very interesting information.nrickert and it is speedy, but it gives no quote if you wanted one. I had to add above quote manually.
Thank You,
You might have generalized a little, and tried middle-click on “Reply with quote”.
Interesting
Middle click on ‘Reply’ does work
But it open a New Tab too
But a useful tip, thanks.
Yes, usefull tip.
But to come back to the original question. If it were possible to promote the CODE tags button to the “not advanced” editor, we would of course have done so. It would have spared @caf4926 writing his famous Howto and others the endless pointing to it. But this is the way the Forums software is. Apparently the majority of it’s users do not have the prominent need for CODE tags (you do not need them e.g. in a forum about pullover knitting).
Ah, that works of course. But I still think that code tags would make a valuable addition to the quick reply box. That is what I am currently typing in. Much more useful on a board like this than most of the items there. How often do you need Insert Video or how often do you need different fonts or different font sizes? Hardly ever. Code is used constantly.
If it is not (easily) possible, then … Oh, well.
My personal opinion:
It might be possible to implant it in some way (or at least to deactivate the quick replay)
but even so this would have to be changed by the (volunteer) administrator
every time the forums’ software gets updated
in addition to the already made changes compared with the default vBulletin software.
Compare: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/other-forums/forums-feedback/forums-comments-suggestions/420809-why-we-wont-implement-your-suggestion.html
I guess the probability of bugs (that need time for searching for it, finding a solution and fixing the bug)
will not decrease when the added features and differences from the vBulletin mainline increase…
And probably there would be a lot people complaining bitterly if the quick replay button would be ‘deleted’
(if not for an other reason like they want to have a look at the postings before while posting
than just because it was always there … ;)…

Martin
