suddenly a problem with my graphic card

Hello there,

suddenly the graphic card of my laptop seems not to work!

LInux can only boot in safe-mode (without NVidia-Drivers which were installed properly 3 weeks ago and everything was working fine until now). Linux cannot boot now in graphic normal mode. Error in the X server.

System: Suse 11.1 64bit on Samsung R710 with Vista in dual-boot. Yesterday I used Vista to play videogames in a lan-party.

*Q: it could have been the automatic update of Xorg-X11 stuff (I’ve noticed I have plenty of Xorg-X11-lib/lib32 installed)?

recently I have also installed libs required for skype (as suggested here)
libqt4 libqt4-x11 libqt4-dbus-1 libsigc++2
libqt4-32bit libqt4-dbus-1-32bit libqt4-x11-32bit libsigc++2-32bit xorg-x11-libXv-32bit***********

Many Thanks 4 help!

You might have the kernel updated. Then the nvidia driver stops working, and needs a reinstall.

It is likely that a reinstallation of the nvidia driver will solve the problem anyway.

Follow the guide:

NVIDIA/The hard way - openSUSE

ok, thanks, but should I first uninstall the nvidia driver, then re-install them, or directly re-install ?

Alex

Directly reinstall. In new installation, in a dialog, select option to remove the old driver installation.

many thanks, everything ok now with the new installation.
I will disable automatic kernel updates.
