The installer installs a preselected list of software. If you don’t like it,
uninstall it. If want it and it’s not installed, install it. Pretty Simple.

In the case of Inkscape “requiring skencil”… are you sure? Maybe it IS a
packaging problem… but the author/packager of Inkscape seems to desire you
to also have skencil installed too.
The list of dependencies for Inkscape is:
libc.so.6
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.0)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4)
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.1.3)
…
…
…
libpoppler.so.3
skencil <<<<<=====================================
libgcc_s.so.1(GCC_3.3.1)
…
…
…
rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) <= 4.4.2-1
rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1
rpmlib(PartialHardlinkSets) <= 4.0.4-1
Which does indicate that, for whatever reason, Inkscape DOES require skencil
to be installed. No, I don’t know why.
The computer’s just following instructions.

If it’s not a good idea to do something… maybe not doing it is a good idea?
You’ll need some knowledge and a rescue disk to fix root’s password.
With that one command, you made it such that you cannot EVER log in as
root… so unless you have previously set up certain privileges involving
your user and ‘sudo’… you will be unable to perform any sort of system
maintenance and setup since you now cannot type root’s password to use the
‘sudo’ command. (Ubuntu does this to “help” ween Windows users. OpenSUSE is
not Ubuntu)
