Strange thing with GNOME

After some manipultaions wit gtk (I downloaded some files for some application to work) GNOME’s appearance has become angular and old-fashioned. Choosing a theme won’t work and some other UI tweaking tools too. I tried reinstalling GNOME but it didn’t work. On boot when the system’s about to show the login screen, I see a message “/usr/share/gdm/themes/GDM-SuSE/Background.svg was not found”. How can I fix GNOME?

Hi
What were the ‘files for application to work’? What version of openSUSE?

If you open the Control Centre and select appearance and customize and
look through the tabs there and reset defaults.

  1. OpenSUSE 11
  2. If I open the Control Centre and select appearance and customize there, the window will open and close afterwards, so I don’t have any ability to reset.

Hi
Strange… have a browse with gconf-editor and see if something has
gone haywire.

What part should I start with in gconf-editor?

Hi
Probably Gnome -> main-menu just browse and have a look though
Have you installed any updates lately? If not run from the Command line
sudo zypper ref and then sudo zypper lu to show if there are any
updates.
