Strange Network settings after 13.1 to 13.2 upgrade

A couple anomalies found after recent upgrade from 13.1 to 13.2 using offline DVD method (followed by YAST Software Management update of all repos)
Machine is HPDV7T laptop, Intel + nVidia graphics, Intell wireless , UEFI Bios
Previous 13.1 install booted EFI from EFI partition .

  1. Grub2 Menu still said “13.1”. Selecting that menu option booted 13.2.
Corrected this by editing “Distributor” field at YAST2-System-BootLoader and subsequent reinstall of bootloader.

  2. Before upgrade, 13.1 was running Network Management (not ifup), wireless was disabled in NM and wired Ethernet connected.
After initial upgrade, computer started up with Network Management plasmoid running, showing all previous connection options migrated and Ethernet connection operating correctly.
Found that computer would not shutdown (turn off), selecting shutdown would exit to a “init 3” looking login prompt, but keyboard was not working. Waited at least 10 seconds, then Powerbutton for 5 seconds killed power.
After reboot, reviewed YAST2-System-System Services and saw both wicked (the new ifup) and Network Management enabled and active.
Looked at YAST2-Network Devices - Network Settings and Global tab reported that wicked was in control, yet Network Management plasmoid was active and reporting as if it was in control. In the Global tab I changed Network Setup Method to Network Management. On exit, Network Management plasmoid changed to no-network-connection.
Rebooted, system now starts up with Network Management running, wicked service disabled and inactive, which I consider to be the normal, desired state.
Computer now shuts down properly - I see a brief flash of the login prompt “init 3” screen, then display and laptop power off.

That’s a feature, not a bug :stuck_out_tongue:

The file “/etc/default/grub” is considered a local configuration file, so not replaced in the update.

A clean install of 13.2 now has no version number in that file, to avoid this being a future “problem.”

It’s hard to say what went wrong. I did a clean install of 13.2, and did not see any problems with networking. However, updating a previous version can sometimes cause unexpected glitches.

Thanks, I understand that new ‘features’ must be tolerated.
