Strange Happenings

I have installed Tumbleweed twice and I’ve noticed some things that I hope you can help me with?

In the first time I’ve installed Tumbleweed It was running very slow , and Firefox was crashing any time I had more than two tabs open. I updated to the a newer version of Firefox (46.0-6.0) ,and I saw no result. I did a restart , and it was even slower. Opening , closing ,and minimizing windows caused the panel to flicker, and I restarted it again. On this restart only the mouse would move and I couldn’t click anything. I then decided to uninstall it and then reinstall it.

The second install it went a lot smoother ,yet the panel still flickered , but I did see LESS crashes in Firefox than before. Now after I’ve done some updates and installed some applications I had to do a restart. When it started up I noticed some similar behaviour from before. It stalled for like 40 seconds (during these 40 seconds I could move my mouse around like before) and then ,I could do something and I opened a terminal ,typed htop to see the cpu load ,and it was 90 % and fluctuating. None of the running apps read for anything higher than .3 %. After a minute or two It stabilized and then I could actually do something. ( it was still running slow) I don’t think this is the intended experience of Opensuse.

Is your DE plasma5? Very likely to be the baloo-file (plasma5 indexing) process.

I still had the freeze problem with my new opensuse installation. But after one or two hours it would be OK. Or you can try to disable it.

Google baloo cpu problem.

Indexing has little or no effect on my low-mid end laptop
What about your graphics? System spec?

Cpu is clocked at 3.0 GHz and intel graphics.

I’ll try that but I still want to explore the other possibilities and uncover any other bugs.

What process did you go by to disable it ,or do you have a recommended process to do this?

KDE Desktop configurations -> Search -> enable file search. There you can disable it.

Apparently tracker was trying to start on startup. That is what was causing the problems . Boot is very fast now ,but the panel still flickers and Firefox is still crashing. Slightly faster though.
