Strange behavior with sddm

Running 20160613(KDE) on old Dell laptop with Intel graphics. When I use kdm, all is fine. When I switch to sddm (edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, reboot), I get the login screen; password is accepted, machine whirrs, I get the session open sound, but the sddm login screen never goes away! Then, if I use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to a console and switch back, my normal session is active. Xorg.0.log doesn’t shown anything strange. What am I missing?

I don’t know but if KDM works and SDDM does not then use KDM. You could report on bugzilla but if the hardware is very old then I doubt if anyone will fix. It definitely is odd.
