Hello all,
I am using Tumbleweed KDE with a very light theme. I do this because a dark theme is unusable for me because I have difficulties reading the light text on a dark background.
What I see now is this: when I move my mouse in for example the KDE terminal “Konsole” I get this:
I see a trail where the mouse has been. For this picture I did move the mouse all over the place, but it always happens.
Thank you.
I am using Wayland with the Nvidia driver 545.29.06, but it also happens in X11 and even when using the AMD GPU instead of the Nvidia one.
I have just installed Tumbleweed again after having used Fedora 39 for a while. I also got this in Fedora so I imagine it is not something related to Tumbleweed. I can of course write this same message in the KDE forum to see if somebody there might have an answer, but I also thought of doing it here.
Does somebody here face the same issue as I have and if so, what have you done about it to make it stop?
Seems like a bug, it could be related to desktop effect, in this case the transparency/blur of the window, you could try disabling both so to have an opaque window, it could be that but it’s a wild guess.
Additionally if your animation speed setting in Workspace Behavior -> General Behavior is set to instant you can try to lower it a bit so to re-enable animations … but it’s unlikely to be that …
No idea what happened.
I disabled blur and translucency: opaque background without a trail. I can now however, when clicking the left-mouse button and drag the mouse, select an area of the terminal.
I re-enabled blur, same result: an opaque background without a trail
I re-enabled translucency gave me the same background: opaque (so no trail).
I increased the translucency in Konsole which gave me some translucency back, less than what I had but that’s okay. I can live with that.
I have played with those 2 effects in the past but never got to this result, why now is a question to me. But, the trail is gone and that’s what I want.
Thank you for your help.
EDIT:
Oops , I shouted too early. The large amount of translucency has returned and also has the trail. So, it did not work after all. Shame, I really thought this was the solution.
I have posted this issue also on the KDE forums (Strange artifacts in light colored applications - #2 by ngraham - Help - KDE Discuss) where I was told there is a bug which manifests itself in Wayland which has been there before, got fixed but in a later update occurred again. It is said it is taken care of in KDE 6. Since this will arrive in a 3 months or so it will be over soon.
Case closed.
