Installed Steam via zypper. Steam works correctly if I enter the command steam in a terminal. But if launch it from KDE start menu, it loops loads and then closes. The steam window never appears.
Not sure if it is relevant, but it also noticed that it messes with discord. Starts showing “playing ” that i don’t own.
Right click the icon in the menu, edit it to have only the steam command.

Hi!
I’m not sure if your issue is already resolved, but just in case it isn’t: I ran into a similar problem after a system update on Tumbleweed. Steam would launch, but no window would appear — and the start process would loop continuously, stealing focus from other windows and applications.
In my case, the problem turned out to be related to Steam not having proper access to the D-Bus session.
I was able to fix it by editing the desktop entry located at:
~/.local/share/applications/steam.de…

If you’re using KDE:
Open up the KDE Menu Editor.
Search “Steam” and select it
Select the ‘Advanced’ tab
Uncheck ‘Run using dedicated graphics card’
Try to launch Steam again (It should work).
Games will still launch using using your discrete graphics so don’t worry.
We have some workarounds for now, but is there an an fix coming for this?

Thanks for point this out. It’s weird that I had another openSuse PC where this isn’t a problem. But it all works now.
