Steam not working on 42.2

Steam is giving me the same error that tumbleweed gave me while trying to run it. Works flawlessly on 42.1 not on TW and 42.2 This bug as been reported to github since it affects more users, but since opensuse page tells users to report it here, here it goes:

Steam response to the issue:

Hello ******

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We apologize for the delay.

Steam for Linux is currently only supported on Ubuntu 12.04 and higher with Unity, Gnome, or KDE desktops.

If you are running another distribution of Linux, we will not be able to provide support. We recommend you install Ubuntu 12.04/12.10 for the best Steam experience on Linux.

For more information on this please visit the following link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valve

If you wish to attempt to run Steam on a different distribution, it’s best that you use Github to discuss them with our developers and other Linux users.

You can create a free Github account here:

If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

How have you installed Steam? From the Game Tools Repository? Considering that Leap 42.2 is still in beta and months away, perhaps it’s not a viable option for running Steam.

Yes I did indeed, but its the most recent version of Steam. I’ve already reported this to bugzilla, the error seems to be linked to more modern openssl versions others say it’s related to mesa. This happens on both tumbleweed and 42.2, the bugzilla report is here:

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=988273

Yes it’s been two months that I have not been able to use steam due to this error. It seems on github most reporters are also on opensuse.

Wonder if this happens to every opensuse user or just some, and when it will be fixed.

This is the only solution I could find to get Steam running again on my TW install (20160911). Hope it helps.

The bug has been fixed on 42.2 beta. I first heard about the fix on bugzilla and github, then I tested it myself after updating the beta 2 to 3. The issue is still not fixed on TW afaik. Took a month to fix it, but it’s done, gj for the community!

I am on Tumbleweed, and it was fixed a couple of snapshots ago.

I had the Tumbleweed issue as well on my laptop and it got fixed already.

Now thinking of upgrading desktop computer that is on Leap 42.1 to 42.2.

Can someone confirm whether steam now works again on 42.2 too ?

Working fine on my machine.i got an amd r7 gpu with radeonsi drivers and works fine

Are you using your old steam folders?
