STEAM fails to start after June 22nd Update

Before the update I was able to run steam and some low-end games. Running steam from command line yields:

Running Steam on opensuse 20160619 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1465948400)
libGL error: unable to load driver: i965_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: i965
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

setting STEAM_RUNTIME=0 shows:

.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 753: 29190 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $STEAM_DEBUGGER "$STEAMROOT/$STEAMEXEPATH" "$@"

With runtime disabled it updated but crashed after.

I’m on a laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo with integrated graphics.

Hopefully someone has any ideas, thanks in advance!

Same problem here.

What worked for me is launching steam with

LD_PRELOAD=’/usr/$LIB/libstdc++.so.6’ steam

Look at page with link attached below:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=193802

You must remove
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/installed/libgcc1_4.8.1-2ubuntu1~12.04+steamrt2+srt1_i386
AND
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6

I have update system yesterday. Steam won’t work after this update.

I have the same problem. The earlier fix does not resolve the problem, but when I perform the previous fix Steam tries to log on, and appears to succeed, but then crashes. Also, I suspect this has to do with the Steam update and not Tumbleweed. This is because Steam started, then updated and now does not work.

In any case, there is a segfault.

/home/edward/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 713: 5372 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $STEAM_DEBUGGER "$STEAMROOT/$STEAMEXEPATH" "$@"
assert_20160712085842_1.dmp[5418]: Finished uploading minidump (out-of-process): success = yes

I have updated Tumbleed yesterday (June 12th) and the problem also appears.
Thanks to the quoted command above steam works again !

Ouch, and just now I allowed steam to update itself.

Now with the workaround I can only reach the login dialog.
After logging in, boom:

/home/vincent/.local/share/Steam/steam.sh: line 713: 4506 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $STEAM_DEBUGGER "$STEAMROOT/$STEAMEXEPATH" "$@"

assert_20160714205405_1.dmp[4553]: Finished uploading minidump (out-of-process): success = yes

And here the matching bugzilla entry: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=987106

At first launch on my tumbleweed with an amd R7 240 gpu, konsole gave me this:

libGL error: unable to load driver: r600_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast.

I deleted some files that i’ve seen in some ubuntu and arch linux threads and the thing got sorted out. Until I reach the login screen and nothing happens.
