Static IP Internet Connection

Hi

I recently took a WIRED internet connection (from the people who provide cable TV) and switched from ubuntu to openSUSE11.2. . I am not able to set up an internet connection :’( in openSUSE 11.2. I have been given a static IP, and the following info

subnet mask
gateway
dns server
alternate dns server

Please tell me how do i set up an internet connection with these in openSUSE 11.2. I am a new bee and would greatly appreciate if someone could help. In the mean time i am forced to use windows and i hate it.

Please don’t post this message again anywhere else!

Please report what you did try to set it up.

The standard way to do it is to

  1. Start YaST

  2. Select Network Devices → Network settings

  3. In Global Options select Traditional Method with ifup

  4. Select your Ethernet device pointing to the outside world and enter all data as suggested by your provider.

  5. Come back here and report what happended. Give a description of what you expect to see and what works or does not work. BTW: “Internet doesn’t work” is no valid squawk; the internet in general works very well :expressionless:

Thanks a lot vodoo. I set up my connection. The internet is working great. No more windows.:):)lol!

I’m glad to hear this worked for you. Yast rules!
