Startup programs

How do I get a program to start up on each bootup ?

It was “sys V init” job on openSUSE to start application at boot, now there is this thing called “systemd”. Well the “sys V init” init scripts are inside the directory

/etc/init.d/

while systemd has it in

/usr/lib/systemd/system

for packages and for the local sys-admin it should be in

/etc/systemd/system/

Now the question is which app/program you want to start at boot time.

For user programs (and I see that you’re a KDE user) I use the tool located at Kicker (panel button) → Configure desktop → startup and shutdown → autostart → add program (or add script).

For system programs use Yast → System → services manager. Find your daemon/service and “enable” it, then “start” it.
