Startup hangs after starting mysqld?

I’ve upgraded my virtual machine from Suse 12.2 Milestones 3 to 12.2 Beta 1 as suggested by zypper but now I can’t boot into my desktop? The boot stops after starting the MySQL database server? I can boot into a recovery console but I don’t know how to fix this problem? This didn’t help: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/pre-release-beta/475735-opensuse-12-2-beta1-released-2.html. I’ve tried boot parameter nomodeset to no avail. How can I start X in failsafe mode? What means “After making Xorg setuid, I can run “startx” in the failsafe system, which shows the graphics is okay.”?

Edit: My Xorg is owned by root and I have set setuid bit to no avail. But runlevel 3 seems to work (network connection).

Please ask questions about the beta in the beta forum.
