Start VPN on log in

Opensuse 13.2

Hi

I have set up a VPN and want it to start when I log in.

The connection window under General Configruration of the VPN is faded out and checked,
where it is says ‘Automatically connect to this network when its available’

The ‘Automatically connect to VPN when using this connection’ can not be selected.

I have looked up various posts and links but I’m still no near forward.

Any help appreciated in advance, guys.

I connect to a remote network (for work) via PPTP VPN. However, I’ve never needed automatic VPN connectivity. Anyway, you should be able to accomplish this using a NM dispatcher script as outlined here

Maybe you are not granted the proper permissions?

The KDE applet acts pretty intransparent if this happens. It doesn’t say so, but just doesn’t let you change things (like greyed out options or ok buttons). Sometimes it asks for passwords or fingerprint scan but that does not change anything.
I am struggling with all kinds of permission problems like this myself and solved this particular one by starting an X session for root and edit the system wide network settings from there.
