Star Trek

I know we’ve got plenty of trekkies in here, so I’ll get it started:

Star Trek is to Star Trek: The Original Series as Battlestar Galactica is to Battlestar 1980. Discuss.

I, for one, saw it last night at a midnight showing here in Milwaukee, and absolutely loved it. It’s a new direction, yes, but I like it and I think it has the potential to be excellent. I’ll be going back, probably again this weekend.

Just watched the trailer. Looks great but they always tend to cram all the best snaps in those.
Certainly worth a look in I say.

Didn’t even know about it until this post, so thanks. I’ve been kinda all consumed with Stargate of recent years. (Ducking Now)

I am usually disappointed at how you can see most of the movie from the trailers… I can definitely say that there was none of that here. Ninety percent of the trailer comes from the first 5 minutes of the movie.

I’m stoked! Seeing it tonight.
Long time trekker, but not a purist.
As long as this one makes some sense it’s
going to rock. I was a huge Battlestar
classic fan and I really really liked the new
series. I would liked to have seen 1 more season
of it. Also a big fan of Alias and JJ Abrams work.
I think this movie has to walk a fine line between
pleasing a new potential mass audience and bringing
the old generation along for a new ride. I hope it
does both. Seeing how JJ is a self proclaimed Trek fan,
I don’t see how it can’t other than disappointing the
hardcore. I guess we’ll see.

Odd, on his interview with Jon Stewart, he said he wasn’t until he
started on this project.

That is odd. I heard he was a fan…that could change things a bit.
Of course a lot of actors that have been in Star Trek’s weren’t fans either.
Maybe it’s a good thing.

Then you’ll like that since Stargate and Stargate Atlantis have been
cancelled/ended, there will be Stargate Universe starting up in fall 2009.

James Doohan’s comments on it were fairly interesting (he spoke at the
university I went to one year during homecoming week) - after the first
question along the lines of “in episode 3, you said that it wasn’t
possible for the Enterprise to do yadayada, but in episode 15, you did
that. Why was that inconsistency there?” (I forget the actual question).

His answer was basically “Look, it was a job for me - one that in general
I enjoyed and got paid well to do, but all I did was act a part and say
the lines that were in the script. So you’d have to ask the writers
questions like that, because I have no idea.”

He was very pragmatic about his experiences in acting on Star Trek (and
in the films). He was there because the school is an aviation school,
and he loved to fly (had his own license, as did his wife IIRC). That’s
what he wanted to talk about.
