Standard kernel won't boot after installing xen hypervisor

Hi, I quite recently installed OpenSuse Leap 42.2 on an intel core nuc (NUC6I7KYK - the quad core one) and it has been running flawlessly until I installed xen hypervisor; I never actually installed any VM’s, I only booted into the kernel and found it made kde desktop effects quite laggy so I restarted and try to boot using the default kernel and found that the monitor would go into standby mode and the computer’s fan’s spin down but the computer stays on just before the screen appears to ask for my password to decrypt the drive (The OS is installed in an lvm encrypted partition); now I want to remove xen hypervisor (seeing as I really don’t need it and was just trying it out) and just run the standard kernel as normal however I can’t because the kernel will now only boot through the xen hypervisor.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong or steps I could take to finding out what the issue is and is there anybody else with the same or similar issue?

Thanks in advance

First,
If this is a brand new install, you may prefer simply re-installing from scratch instead of trying to remove Xen because removing <anything> almost never removes all traces… some things will be left behind. On brand new installs, I generally prefer to re-install whenever I encounter an issue or need to make a major change so that the machine won’t have any possible latent problems that might pop up later.

As for your problems booting with a non-xen kernel,
It probably starts with how you installed Xen. Did you install using YaST or some other way?

And, unless you have a good reason to encrypt your LVM, you shouldn’t.
And, if you do encrypt volumes or partitions, then a verified working backup/restore is imperative if you ever experience corruption related to the encryption.

Hey, thanks for the reply; so I ended up taking your advice and just re-installing from scratch, everything is working perfectly again, i’ll just keep in mind not to install xen (on this machine) again

(p.s. i’m not sure if i’m meant to close this thread or not)
