Stacer (system cleaner) not starting

I installed stacer that is a system cleaner like bleachbit. I thought I would give it a try.
I installed it by downloading rpm file amd installing it through Yast software. No warnings were given during install.

It doesn’t run, however. Missing something related to qt but I can’t find anything to install based upon error messages. Many xcb modules are already installed. Need suggestions.

qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If this is the project, then note that it was abandoned some years ago.

I did delete and reinstall stacer and got same message. Neglected to say that above.

Try QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb stacer

I heard about stacer on a current podcast (The linux cast) yesterday where someone said they were using it currently. I did not look at the date of the git but went upon current info.

base) tom@mydesktop: ~ $ QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb stacer
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.

( You didn’t read the application’s README file , last updated
“3 YEARS AGO” ?? ):

“This project has been abandoned. There will be no further releases”

I don’t think that end of the project means that it necessarily shouldn’t run. I am sure I use many “dead” project apps.

Have you installed all libxcb-Packages?

No but about 20 xcb of them are installed. I couldn’t find any that included words listed in the error message to additionally install.

I have a linux mint vm. I installed stacer using:

“sudo apt-get install stacer”

I ran stacer in a terminal and it started just as shown on the stacer website. Of course, I can only apply it to the vm.

My linux mint vm uses the same MATE desktop as my main pc that is giving the error. I should have said that previously.

For reference here are the xcb items installed on my pc. “szs” is my alias for “sudo zypper search”.

@tckosvic It’s qt5 based… Perhaps missing qt5 packages…

One of my pet peeves is programmers/developers that put out inaccurate and incoherent error messages. You would think that if they had trapped an error and would put out a message that they would put out something coherent that would allow you to make a diagnosis.

There are about 500 qt5 packages. I think I have about half installed. I don’t want to just install the other few hundred.

Maybe I will look at what xcb and qt5 items linux mint has installed.

Interesting, all of the xcb files that are installed on linux mint, where stacer runs, are also already installed on my system where stacer doesn’t run.

By elimination the difference must be in qt some where. That’s too much to examine.

I am giving up. I will stick with bleachbit. I only wanted to try stacer out.

thanks, tom kosvic
