After the computer froze in the middle of sshd configuration I cannot start the service sshd. I tried to remove the packages and then reinstall them without success.
I’m running OpenSuSE 11.3 with kde4.4.4(freezing I figure is because of the effects so I disabled them and so far it seems that that was the solution).
Anyway here is the error:
curacao:/home/dan # /etc/init.d/sshd start
Starting SSH daemonCould not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key
Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key
Disabling protocol version 2. Could not load host key
sshd: no hostkeys available – exiting.
startproc: exit status of parent of /usr/sbin/sshd: 1 failed
Note: this file is empty /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key and not sure if there was something which got borked.
in yast under services it cannot be started either and ipv6 was disabled.
I think in 11.1 a line in the hostname file I added manually something with ipv4?
ipv4-localhost ipv4-loopback if i remember correctly, but still not working in here, maybe I should restart it? I only logged off after change.
Try deleting that /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key file. You may want to even
clean out all of the key files in there so that SSH recreates them on its
startup.
Good luck.

Thank you ab@novell.com. That was the solution. I think the files were created with 0 bites and then the KDE froze(had to hard reboot) and that created the problem.
