I am using windows with putty/ssh and would like to be able to run yast2 and other GUI thru putty and have the window come up on the windows box. I thought I had to install xming, but not sure. I was looking on google but I dont know the name for want I want.
I have seen some people do this before and it would be nice so I don’t have to go to the box to set some things like a static default gateway. (since I can’t find the file to set it)
Why not using the ncurses version of yast ? Works fine in putty you know.
If you really want the GUI than you will need an X server running on your windows box, start X11 forwarding in putty to the IP and console screen of you X server in windows.
And for an example, Google for ‘xming’ (among others).
Good luck.

I found it. I had XMING installed. I couldn’t find the what I needed to enable of the command to allow the transfer. I found a site with the demonstration. I need to check the option in putty>ssh>X11-Enable X11 Forwarding.
Exactly. Nice work, and thank-you for posting back.
Good luck.
