Spotify/wine problem - no idea how to describe it better!

I’ve got a problem which has quite baffled me. It’s probably something simple which I’m just not seeing, but anyway:

If I install Spotify under Wine, the installer runs just fine, but Spotify does not. Wine gives this message from console:

wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 0x0079e000 at address 0x79e000 (thread 001f), starting debugger…

and then indeed starts the debugger.

However, if I run spotify.exe by telling firefox to open the file with wine, then spotify works just fine. Weird!

How can I make my installed version work?

So I’ve made some progress. I’ve put a copy of spotify.exe in /usr/bin, and I’ve made a symbolic link from there to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Spotify/spotify.exe.

Now it all works.

I’m using an eeepc, so my home folder is on an SDHC card (formatted with ext2). Wine does not seen to be able to run spotify off of that drive. (Assuming I’m right in thinking firfox downloads to /tmp?)

So yeah: works now.

Congratulations. Cannot verify, but what you wrote seems logical thinking. I would submit a bug if I were you.
