Soundcard problems (?)

My first post, please be gentle

I have several sound-devices in my current computer, namely
1 - Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
2 - Yamaha AP U70 external hifi/amplifier
3 - Onboard “VIA 8237 ALC655” (disabled in bios cuz it’s worthless)
4 - a USB Headset identified by openSUSE as “CMedia USB Headphone Set”

All devices are functional (I haven’t tried the onboard for natural reasons - it’s crap and i don’t care whether it works or not), and no errors anywhere.

When I ran Windows (shrugs) I had the Audigy setup as primary sound device, and used the Yamaha amp only when watching movies or having a party. The headset I used mainly when pounding away in Fruity Loops and other stuff where non-disturbance mode was necessary

I can’t, however, for the life of me figure out how to get sound from my Yamaha amp in openSUSE. When I run the “test audio”-thingy i get sound from it, but I can’t figure out how to use it the way I’m used to. In Windows all I did was go to Sound in the control panel, and select the Yamaha in the dropdown box. When I try to do that in the sound part of the control panel, it’s a no-go. I move the Yamaha to the top-position but nothing happens. When restart ALSA (“rcalsasound restart”), all devices but the Audigy get greyed out.

Anyone have any advice for me? I run openSUSE 11 x86_64 and KDE 4.

Well, I found a temporary solution. KPlayer had the option to choose device for the audio. That’ll work for now, but if anyone has any tips on how to enable the Yamaha amp in other applications as well, I’m all ears (or eyes).
