Is there any reason why I have to configure my soundcard each time I boot up? All my sound and volume options get reset every time I shutdown as well.
My soundcard shows up as MCP73 High Def Sound. I have a Gigabyte ga 73pvm s2h motherboard.

After rebooting, do you have sound at all ? ie is this just a mixer issue? You can test for sound by copying and pasting this into a gnome terminal or a kde konsole:speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twavand then test your mixer.
If that does not work, and if you find you need to run “alsaconf” or “yast > hardware > sound” each time to get sound functioning, then instead, after a restart of your PC, try running in a konsolesu -c 'rcalsasound restart’and enter root password. Start your mixer and test your sound (with the sound test above). If that works, then put the line “rcalsasound restart” as the last line in your /etc/init.d/boot.local file.
If that works after a reboot (and after turning your mixer) but your mixer settings are lost each time, then setup your mixer the way you like, and run the following in a gnome terminal or kde konsole:su -c ‘alsactl store’ enter root password when prompted. That may work.
