Sound

Just installed 11.1 onto my 80gig EEEpc, everything running fine, but just wondering if i can boost the volume in any way? It’s not quiet, just not loud and every setting i can see is at max.

Try going to YaST > Hardware > Sound > Other > Volume and move both MASTER and PCM volume up to 95%. Close YaST. Then go to your mixer (kmix in kde and alsamixer in Gnome) and move your MASTER and PCM volume up there. Its also possible you may have a “SPEAKER” volume control that you also may need to move up.

Hi there.

I have the following problem: ny on-board intel-audio plays system sounds but not movies or music. Did everything you told but surprisingly the test sound didn’t work… Any clues, pls?

Thanks in advance.

What test sound? YaST test sound? It is buggy.

There are 3 tests sounds in the audio troubleshooting guide and one should try all 3. Typically at least 1 of the 3 will work.

I recommend you follow the advice in this post: openSUSE Forums - View Single Post - setup your multimedia
… apologies for the excessive pontification in that post.

No. I’ve already been in the link of the restricted formats but it ain’t the problem. The sound still plays for OS features but not w/ firefox, movies , music. I guess it can be something about the kmix…

By the way, nice post you made  those repository issues on the yast are great.
