Sound works either in skype, or in KDE+flash (pulseaudio 0.9.21, opensuse 11.2)

The sound works either in skype, or in KDE and flash.
It switches quite randomly, sometimes the video stops working fine in Chrome after couple of hours of idleness.

What info should post here for further info?
Or maybe I misconfigured PulseAudio?

Thank you for help very much.

Linux is notorious for applications seizing the audio device and not letting go. One of the reasons for pulse audio was to try and address this problem.

By default pulse is disabled in openSUSE-11.2, so if yours is openSUSE-11.2 KDE4 then its not likely a pulse hiccup.

Instead its likely your multimedia applications are not sharing the audio device. If you wish to have them share, then you could try change in their settings to have them use the alsa-api (which may work for some, but not all hardware) or see if you can enable pulse, and then after pulse is enabled “pray” :\ … Possibly this could help AFTER pulse is enabled: SystemWideInstance – PulseAudio

Hmm… that is not quite reassuring… is there any hope the situation will change?

ps. i ran command “setup-pulseaudio --enable” and nothing changed =)

Hope? There is always hope.

You can try uninstalling pulse audio. It was a solution for me.
