Sound stopped working when upgrading from kde 4.1 to 4.2.4

Hi,

I recently installed openSUSE 11.1 with its default KDE4 version and I upgraded from KDE 4.1 to 4.2.4 and my sound stopped working. When trying to play a song in amarok I get a >Failed to connect: connection refused error.

Please note that sound worked fine when I had KDE 4.1 with its default installation.

Also, I’m getting dependency problems when trying to install amarok 2.1, how can I fix those?

Thanks for your time and assistance

Use the expert button in the dependency error box to save the info to file, then copy and paste it here.

Did you try sound in any other application?

Hi caf, thanks for responding.

The sound stopped working in all applications once I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2.4.

I didn’t get the login/logout chime, and none of the system sounds worked.

I simply used amarok as an example.

Thanks again,

Check that your sound is not muted in kmix.

Another item to check for is if you have pulseaudio installed,if you do go to Yast & uninstall just leave in libpulse. Pulseaudio does not play well with phonon.

As a follow up to my problem when I log in, I am getting an error message like:

Intel ICH5 with AD1985 does not work. Falling back to pulseaudio.

The peculiar thing is that this worked find in kde 4.1, but not in kde 4.2.4.

Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
